Per Capita Income Growth

The latest data available from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Department of Commerce shows the Bangor Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) per capita personal income (PCPI) was $32,812 in 2010, up from $28,904 in 2005 and $24,132 in 2000. The 2010 Lewiston-Auburn MSA PCPI was $35,139, Portland’s was $41,901, Maine was $36,763, and the U.S. was $39,937.

The chart below shows PCPI percent change. Looking at the period 2006 to 2010, the Bangor MSA shows a PCPI growth of 9.8 percent compared to a Maine average of 9.8 and U. S. average of 5.9. The Lewiston MSA grew 10.7 percent and the Portland MSA grew 7.4 percent.


Median Income

The City of Bangor’s median income has increased from $31,830 in 2004 to $34,174 in 2009.
