Surprisingly Metro. Refreshingly Real.

Bangor Hydro-Electric Company is the electricity transmission and delivery company serving central and eastern Maine.  In addition to its residential programs, Bangor Hydro-Electric offers a number of commercial and industrial programs. Bangor Hydro provides power delivery through advanced switching technologies, protective devices, and dual power feeds. This helps ensure that Bangor Hydro customers receive quality, reliable electric service.

The price of electricity includes several separate components. Electricity supply costs are determined by the New England wholesale market prices, which generally track the cost of natural gas fueled generation. Natural gas costs have declined in recent years due to over-supply from depressed demand as a result of the national and global recession and recent discoveries of natural gas supply in shale. Wholesale electricity prices in New England have declined similarly, and have resulted in reductions – in turn – to retail supply prices in Maine as new supply is acquired at these reduced price levels. Distribution is provided by Bangor Hydro and costs are regulated by a state commission. Bangor Hydro’s electric prices track those of the New England region but, particularly for businesses, are generally lower than those of the rest of New England.

Commercial and industrial rates are based upon a number of factors and allow customers who meet the eligibility criteria to take advantage of a number of programs that are offered through Bangor Hydro-Electric Company. These include special economic development rates for both current and new customers and competitive energy rates for certain end uses. In the construction of new facilities, the company offers a negotiable multi-year contract for energy services that takes into account construction costs borne by the customer. Bangor Hydro-Electric will work one-on-one with its commercial and industrial customers to identify the best price and value for energy services provided and is prepared to negotiate incentive rates for business attraction and economic development projects.
